INTRODUCTION 

   Welcome to the 2011 International Conference on Environment OMICS (ICEO 2011), to be held from November 8-12, 2011 in Guangzhou, a beautiful city with an ever-green scenery and flowers blooming all the year round. The aims of this conference are to serve as an interdisciplinary scientific forum to present the most recent advances in environmental OMICS and OMICS technologies, to promote international communication and collaboration on environmental OMICS research, and to foster integration of the latest scientific developments into practical applications for the improvement of human health and the environment. It is our hope that the integration of a variety of environmental OMICS sciences and technologies including basic research in DNA, RNA, Micro-RNA, proteins and metabolites will provide novel perspectives on the complex environmental problems, and effective and systematic solutions to the improvement of environmental health. Environmental scientists and engineers, vendors, management professionals, regulatory agency representatives, and decision-making officials will all benefit from this opportunity to exchange information, and discuss the latest development in environmental OMICS research and applications.
    During the conference period, all conference participants will be invited to join a workshop to discuss a proposal to establish the International Society for Environmental OMICS (ISEO). The mission of this organization is to consolidate different environmental OMICS research laboratories, groups and organizations worldwide into the ISEO; to engage in scientific and educational activities that promote environmental OMICS research and technologies; and to assist in coordinating shared, public environmental OMICS initiatives.
   English will be the official conference language.
